How to Write a Winning Personal Statement for Law School Admission
It is important to be honest and use this opportunity to introduce yourself to the institutions that you are interested in. Consider the following tips to help you write a winning personal statement for law school!
Consider writing about topics that introduce the institution to who you are and to clearly show how you fit within the school’s mission. Remember this is a mutual investment for you and the institution.
1. Be honest. This is your first step into the law and you never know who will question you about your law school application and your personal statement therefore, its best to be honest from the start.
2. Consult your counselor
3. Make your statement interesting. This is your first conversation with the institution to let them know YOU DESERVE TO BE THERE and you are an excellent choice. This is your chance to tell your unique story and to get them interested in you.
4. Proofread, proofread and proofread one more time. Do not let a silly mistake be the reason that you are not accepted.
5. Highlight the aspects of your background that are unique. Do you have a unique or otherwise diverse socioeconomic background, religion, family etc. If so, strongly consider using this in your personal statement.
6. Do not use overly wordy language. Write for your audience. You do not have to write like you think a lawyer or judge would. Write like an enthusiastic student, or otherwise accomplished individual that is interested in embarking on this new journey, law school.
